Good piece, Gerald.

A few years back, the Bible was republished in Iceland in a new translation, supposedly in an attempt at creating something they called "the language of both genders". Besides flattening the language the main change was to throw out "brethern" everywhere. This was before they invented the other 120 or so genders; I assume they're preparing a new "gender neutral" one now, perhaps featuring the "parent of God".

Nothing is safe. The $ question is the trajectory of how will sales & readership be? More, less or the same.

The weirdest thing is that they don't think of what they are doing as Orwellian. How can you not see what you are doing?

Excellent piece, thank you. One of the things that gripes me is the patronizing attitude towards readers, who are deemed unable to decide for themselves if they are offended or not.

Have you hired a sensitivity reader for "Mengele: The Complete Story"?

Stupid people change things smart people wrote to feel like they are making a contribution. Its like when the American publisher of the Harry Potter books changed the title from "... the Philosopher's Stone" to Sorcerer's Stone. They are stupid people with nothing to offer but making a change in something a smart person did makes them feel like are part of the process and officially a smart person too.
