As a secular person who doesn’t follow any particular religion, and born and raised in New York, I am sad that this Mayor has decided to deny and diminish the Jewish people in hope to elevate others. That is not within the framework of democracy.

Thanks Gerald for elaborating on this issue. You are correct, it was a premeditated move that directly undermines core values that guide a free, open and multicultural society. Values dare I say from which Mamdani and his ilk have royally benefitted.

And the response from the Democratic party to this , "move along nothing to see here".

The young Democrats supporting this are the same ones supporting gender identity, both in NYC and in SF with those backing AOC's former chief of staff running to replace Pelosi, and making condemnation of Israel a major focus.

The belief that demographics were favoring Democrats as younger voters came increasingly into to play made the classic mistake of believing they would be like us. Does not bode well.

I think most non-Jewish New Yorkers only care about the fact that they don't have Eric Adams to kick around any more. Therefore they can't see the significance of this.

But look: I'm pretty sure everyone knew he was a Muslim before he was elected, and Muslims have issues with Jews...

so many similarities between zionism and gender activism. both are primarily PR and lobby campaigns with the goal of robbing the rights of vulnerable people (women, kids, gays, native arabs) to benefit white men who claim to marginalized but arent.

israel is one of the safest places on earth, many times safer than US cities with similar populations. similarly, ppl who ID as opposite gender are also one of the safest groups. claims that people who ID as opposite gender suffer high crime rates are based on self reported internet polls. official police records show them to be one of the safest groups.

both groups feed their followers a steady diet of histrionic misinformation that members of their groups are being "attacked" when the only context where this can be true is when they are involved in voluntary actions that are typically associated with violence. in the case of israel, they routinely engage in unnecessary attacks on other countries and unnecessarily have kept millions of native arabs in a harsh illegal military prison called west bank and gaza for almost 60 years. gender activists claim they are under attack based on crimes against male prostitutes in countries with the worlds worst crime rates, of course misrepresenting this data to make it seem like the related crimes took place with random people in western countries who werent doing anything other than "existing".

both groups seek to control language and promote false narratives via boutique terms and enforced definitions. if anyone doesnt go along with their made up fiction, they are accused of "hate".

however, its really an act of love to refuse to go along with peoples delusions. its helps neither group or individuals within these groups to continue to participate in mindless matras that only reinforce rigid ideas that arent based on reality

Maybe you will get to meet some of the Hamas and Hezbollah guys that Biden let in. You will be just as much an Infidel in their eyes, as Jews and Israelis are. Needless to say, Mamdani will not protect you from them.

i oppose illegal immigration partly due to the crime issue but also becusse its not sustainable. there are 163 million jobs in the US. if we allow 2 million undoc in ea year over 20 years they will end up lowering wages for half the country due to undoc willingness to work for nothing. people think undoc only do farm work. thats incorrect. they can do practically anything and there never will be enough enforcement to police businesses.

Really important breakdown of how policy framing matters from day one. The point about mutating antisemitism adapting through new language is spot-on and I've seen this play out in academic spaces where BDS advocacy creates environments where Jewish students self-censor. What's intresting is how the EU example undermines the false choice between adopting IHRA and criticizing Israel, since European countries do both simultaneously with no contradiction.

“Day One actions are chosen precisely because they define the tone of what follows. This decision signals how antisemitism will be understood, addressed, or dismissed in New York City over the next four years — and how seriously Jewish safety and belonging will be taken by the city’s leadership.”

IMHO for Jewish New Yorkers, this was not merely a warning shot. It was the opening salvo on DAY 1. They’ve declared war on Jews. It’s only going to get worse. You think this is going to end with Jews? Well think again. Who’s next? Pure evil!

This is sickening, shocking. I don't want any US city to have to be a proving ground for antisemitic resistance, but let's hope NYC, of all places, will stand up to the test. That's not to suggest the threat is dismissible as localized -- their problem, not ours -- but the actions you've named are those of the just-elected mayor, and that clarity is important. I'd like to see a national show of support for Jewish New Yorkers.

We can't say that we weren't warned.

The warm embrace of antisemitic collectivism awaits.
