Sadly, the New York Times has turned into, maybe always was, something of a yellow-press.
But I kind of think they crossed the Rubicon into crazy-town with their language over the transgender issue, much of which boils down into rather odious cases of insisting, on pain of death, that "2+2=5", that, in effect, "trans women are women".
Cases in point being their frequent use of phrases like "transgender girls" and transgender female athletes" to refer to people who are, in point of fact, simply "gender non-conforming", guys in drag, male transvestites if they still have their nuts attached and sexless eunuchs if they don't: transgender males, NOT "transgender females".
My open letter to a bunch of "journalists" -- hacks, useful/useless idiots, scientific illiterates -- at the Times and at Slate, another yellow-journal often not worth the paper it's printed on:

I think the most glaring start of this downfall you describe in this article was during the 2016 election cycle when the NYT predicted that Clinton had 99% chance of winning. They had already skewed their coverage of Israel well before then, but in my opinion that instance just showed how truly dysfunctional mainstream media became in reporting the truth, in this case even about the realities of their own country.
Ashley Rindsberg details how spectacularly the NYT has gotten it wrong by adopting partisan views in his book “The Gray Lady Winked.” It’s an old story but I just wasn’t aware of it until after October 7.
As someone who has always supported Israel, it's difficult to say whether the Times is slanting the news or taking sides. I'd say no. The government of Israel justifies the total destruction of Gaza by asking whether the firebombing of Dresden during WWII was justified. Should we punish an entire people for the sins of Hamas? What Hamas did on Oct. 7 is horrendous and deserving of the worst punishment. But there have been actions by the IDF that are unexplainable and appear to be war crimes. The killing of journalists while filing the stories. The ambush of first responders in ambulances and fire trucks - shooting unarmed emergency crews point blank, killing a UN worker who saw the shootings, and then, burying the evidence with a bulldozer, crushing the fire trucks into the ground. What is this? That's not the Israel I know. And recent attacks by settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank. What is this and why is Israel allowing this? Sure, the US went mad after 9/11, invading Afghanistan (justified) but then Iraq under the premise of weapons of mass destruction - destablizing the region and giving Iran the leg up in the MidEast. Many were happy to make war with 9/11 still on their minds. I will never stop supporting Israel, but they must stop their soldiers and settlers from committing crimes. That is not the Israel I know and it damages the standing of the country world-wide. The NY Times has been reporting this, probably better than any publication anywhere.
