As a political reporter in Iowa, I can tell you that the left wing is very marginal in the Democratic Party here. We have not seen DSA candidates win primaries for any state or federal offices.
Sadly the Republican nominee for governor in my state, Zach Lahn, said earlier this year that he was honored to do an interview with Tucker Carlson (who platforms antisemitism to an audience of millions). A couple of months later, Lahn said he was honored to be endorsed by the former member of Congress Steve King, known for his bigoted and white supremacist comments. And Lahn and his supporters have repeatedly used antisemitic dog whistles, like emphasizing that the Democratic candidate accepted contributions from George Soros and Reid Hoffman (Hoffman is not Jewish but many people think he is).
There are no Democratic members of Congress from Iowa. The ones who served over the past 20 years were all very mainstream, not DSA types. To claim that every Democrat is the same only demonstrates that you don’t know what you are talking about.

Under Article I, Section 5, Clause 2 (the Expulsion Clause), Congress holds broad discretion to punish disorderly behavior. During the Civil War, the House and Senate aggressively wielded this clause for purely ideological and political reasons, expelling 17 members in 1861 and 1862 for their allegiance to the Confederacy. Specifically, the House used this power in 1861 to expel Representatives John B. Clark for fighting with the pro-Confederate Missouri State Guard, John W. Reid for joining the Confederate army, and Henry C. Burnett for actively working toward Kentucky's secession.
While the Supreme Court ruled in Powell v. McCormack (1969) that Congress cannot exclude a member-elect who meets basic qualifications, the power to expel attaches the moment they take the oath. A two-thirds supermajority could theoretically argue that advocating for systems fundamentally opposed to our constitutional economic order is disqualifying.

He described the encounter as (allegedly) spontaneous (saw Wiener while walking home and started filming). The broader group reflects anti-Zionist elements within SF’s activist/left scenes, including some overlapping with trans/Pride activism who view support for Israel as incompatible with their values.
So how big of an “ultra progressive group is this? The “ultra-progressive group” behind these specific Wiener encounters is best understood as a loose network of a few dozen highly active local provocateurs at most, operating within a larger (but still minority) pro-Palestine activist pool in a very left-leaning city. They punch above their weight online and in media coverage but currently lack broad political power or mass support even locally.
