In its essence, this is one more example of a core problem that now pervades society; the negation of reality. It manifests itself all over; in literature, in history, in politics, in economics, even in science; objective reality gives way to the subjective. But eventually, reality catches up with those who negate it.
I can’t wait for the new edition of “Fahrenheit 451” in which the firepersons are depicted as heroes for conducting flaming bonfires of far-right–wing extremist racist antivaxxer misinformation.
And then we can enjoy a romp through Room 101 with the beloved O’Brien graciously instructing Winston in New Normal Math.
I share your anticipation. Although I think there is a good chance the new edition will be renamed "Celsius 232.8" since the word police are certain to judge the Fahrenheit standard a leftover vestige of British colonialism.
Double-plus good, Gerald. On reflection, though, measurements are so patriarchal, so perhaps they will go with something accessible like “Hot Hot Burns.”
That's perfect Margaret. I was so narrowly focused on the sins of Fahrenheit that I forgot about the wider systemic failings of measurements. I am relieved that in my cooking I add a dash of this, a pinch of that, a couple of spoonfuls of whatever, I've been mercifully measurement free without realizing it

Agreed that reality will catch up with those who negate it, but the question is how long that might take. Much damage will be done in the interim.

😂
Brilliant, Gerald. I believe you have come up with the ideal title for a sensitivity-reader–approved cookbook series: “Mercifully Measurement-Free.”
Off to my agent in the morning. 😅
😹👨🍳🤞
(Please accept my apologies for the sterotypically masculine cisgender chef emoji.)
Oh, WTH. This is nuts. Wait till they do "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" or the Old and New Testaments.
Those books will be a little slimmer after the sensitivity readers are finished....
