I remember, in 1968, our local alternative newspaper, the Los Angeles Free Press, would publish stories about Nixon, and in them they would quote something about law and order, for example, which sounded like Nixon campaign rhetoric, and then reveal that it was something Hitler said in the late 1930s. They commonly called him a fascist. I think I recall Rolling Stone running stories in the late 1960s, early 1970s, about Amerika, or "A Pitiful, Helpless Giant". This kind of tactic seems to be very old (well, maybe relatively old) on the left. Maybe it's just a way to show others what school of thought you belong to, but I always thought that if it were toned down, more people might listen.
So, just because someone compares Trump to Hitler he/she is somehow complicit in inspiring the lunatic fringe to violence? I don't think so. The comparison is valid.
When did this country stop teaching civics in grammar school?
Gerald, this is an outstanding review which hopefully leads to some introspection of where we are right now in our politics - as individuals and as the 2 main political parties. I remain pessimistic as this will most likely disappear in the next news cycle which is manipulated by the MSM. The ginning up process starts with each candidate & their respective mouthpieces be they party loyalists, congressional leaders & members as well as MSM ‘journalists’ commodified into neatly packaged quotes, videos or sound bites of short takes of uncontextualized sensationalized hyperbolic clickbait - which is the cheap & easy way out for obtaining information. All to make a buck. These are ‘shopped’ by people looking for news that fits their beliefs instead of them looking at multiple sources across the political spectrum to attempt to get a better gauge of events. And we fall for it again & again. This is an unending cycle. Introspection goes hand in hand with objectivity, truth & knowledge.
Gerald, I didn't know who you were until Substack. Read your Wikipedia lastnight which blew my mind. Bought Case Closed today to send to my Father for his 88th birthday. Hopefully I can borrow it when he's read it.

I don't believe in political violence of any kind, but Trump has made it extremely clear that he's a fascist.

I would like to add that JD Vance once referred to Donald Trump as “America’s Hitler.”
JFK to Jackie in their Ft Worth hotel, the eve of the assassination: “we’re going into nut country tomorrow.”
