"South Beach on the Cusp"
The FIU arts magazine Inspicio in its springtime edition is running "The Death of an American City," Chapter 7 of my 2009 book, Miami Babylon, together with some wonderful, previously unpublished pictures of South Beach, from NYT architecture journo David Dunlap.
This is when South Beach reached its nadir. It was almost impossible then to think that this southern tip of Miami Beach would be anything other than a battleground for government redevelopment agencies fighting for power and turf. Enter Barbara Capitman and a handful of community activists to save the day.
Remember to download the Inspicio iPad app from the Apple store to see the story in all its glory
